Google Sheets Scoreboards

A side project driven by my pursuits of personal fitness and interests in leveraging data as a motivator. Early on, I discovered that Google Sheets is a great playground for scoreboards, as it serves as both the database and the UI, and with some light scripting, I could bring my visions to life. Its ubiquity meant a relatively low learning curve for participants.

I’ve run light fitness competitions at work and with friends using these scoreboards. The first is Pushup Pixels where every completed set of pushups allows the participant to place a pixel on the grid. The second is Steps Challenge, where two teams compete for the most steps over a given period.

These boards have evolved over time based on player use and feedback. The goal is always to encourage everyone to be their best selves and have fun in the process!
